About Prairie Doodles

My name is Gail Groeneveld and together with my husband Gary, have raised four wonderful sons, Josh, Levi, Matt and Jacob, on the Groeneveld family farm. In 2009 we only have one 16 year old son, Jacob, left at home as the others have left the nest! To relieve the "empty nest syndrome" we are delighted and thrilled to be able to breed one of the most gorgeous dogs ever produced, the Australian Labradoodle.

When we first began to research different breeds of dogs we were readying ourselves to saying farewell to our beloved Labrador retriever, Strider. As much as I loved the labs I could not deal with the hair any longer and so the search began for a non shedding large (not toy) family pet. When I googled "non shedding dogs" I got all sorts of links for different terrier breeds like the Soft Coated Wheatens and Airdales. My very good friend who bred terriers reassured me that I was definitely NOT a terrier person and that I should continue to look. When I came across the website featuring the Australian Labradoodle I was in love and not only did I want one of these dogs I wanted to breed them! They were the perfect combination of the intelligent, affectionate, playful lab with the intelligent, athletic, happy go lucky natured poodle! Everything we wanted and more!

The hunt began for the perfect breeding girl. We found our first breeding girl, Lucy, from Down Under Labradoodles in the U.S.A. and then we got our sweet Ellie Mae from Morningsmile Labradoodles in B.C. and a few months later we got our beloved Lindy from Kim at Manorlake Labradoodles in Washington and thus began our breeding adventure. We have experienced huge learning curves and had lots of laughter and tears but after four years of breeding we are still in love with the breed and are thrilled to be producing beautiful, non shedding, active, companions for family's, singles and couples all over North America and beyond to Holland and to Bermuda as well.
